Is it the InkSpots? No! it's:
Allan Pearce and the PeerSpots
Allan, Rod and Steve formed the PeerSpots in the early 80's. With their wide ranging styles of music (Jazz, Country, Rock, Pop) and with a reputation for providing a good time, the band soon became very popular in northern Tasmania.
Their gigs included the annual (toffy) "Tasmanian Blue Bloods Ball", which they played four times in seven years, to other Balls, Cabarets, Weddings, and a great variety other disco, club and pub functions. On many occasions, their sessions have included guest musicians, such as
Jim "Fingers" Marshall, (Tall)
Paul Sorrell, Greg Carr (principal trumpeter with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Sydney) and the rising young Australian guitarist
Stuart French (who won the 2002 Golden Guitar for Best Instrumental).
Allan Pearce - piano, keyboards.
Allan Pearce, a virtuoso on piano, has been playing for almost 50 years. If he has heard the tune, he can play it - if he hasn't, he can vamp it.
In recent years Allan has also played electric piano, which offers the wide range of synthesized sounds so important to reproduce today's sounds.
He played widely in Tasmania as a stand-in musician for bands and combo's and has also worked extensively in the recording industry producing advertisements. Allan is now residing in Gippsland, Victoria, where he performs solo work in a wide range of clubs, hotels and restaurants.
Steve Hill - lead and harmony vocals, drums, percussion.
Originally from New Zealand, Steve is a most accomplished musician, playing guitar, drums and piano. His bands toured in New Zealand and Australia extensively in the late 60's and 70's. Steve moved to Australia in the 80's and now resides in Tasmania. For about 20 years on and off, Steve played with Allan, John and Rod, performing at numerous functions in the local rock and jazz scene.
Steve's vocal style is strong and he has an excellent ear for harmonies. His drumming style is articulate and precise and as such, ensures that the band maintains strict tempo even as the excitement mounts.
Currently involved with his own business, Steve is now sought after for session performances with a number of musical groups in Launceston and Hobart. His current band is the "Laymen"
Paul Sorrell often joined the PeerSpots in Tasmania, when he was flown over for specific functions whenever a special floor show was required.
Additionally, the PeerSpots have joined Paul in Adelaide where they have backed him at performances at the Brighton football club. More recently. he has joined the PeerSpots at the Berrys Bridge winery at Carapooee.
With influences ranging from 1940's jazz and swing music to the hits of the 70's and 80's, this band has a wide repertoire that can cater for almost any function.
